Cecelia and I decided mid-week to go sea kayaking one more time while she was still here in Alaska.  We planned to go to Seward, down on the Kenai, so I called around and found the last hotel room in town open for the weekend.  It was in an old hotel, built in 1915 (positively ancient by Alaskan standards), but we had a nice room with a view of the water.

The next morning we boarded a boat and got ferried across Resurrection Bay to Thumb Cove, where we put in our kayaks and paddled about for several hours.  There were mountains and 3 glaciers to look at, eagles and sea otters, and when we got close to a stream outlet, there were hundreds of pink salmon milling about, waiting to swim upstream to spawn.  And me without a fly rod!  All in all, a wonderful time.

Cecelia is heading down the Alaska Highway to her new home in Montana in just a few days, at the end of this week.  I’ve got an old friend from Maine, now living in California, coming for a weeks visit, and after that we’ll just see what the future brings.  Wouldn’t be surprised if I got a bit more camping and fishing in!
