This past weekend we hit the road again and went to Seward, down on the coast on Resurrection Bay.  It was a rainy, foggy, overcast day, but we were ready to do a bit more exploring, so we went for it.

The trip took us down the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, one of the most scenic drives in a place that does scenic on a routine basis, and out onto the Kenai Peninsula.  Seward has mountains that meet the sea like you wouldn’t believe, but we weren’t able to appreciate them due to the fog.  We’ll definitely have to go back on a clear day, which we plan to do anyway as it’s a good place to go sea kayaking.

On the way back, we visited Exit Glacier, and were able to get right up close and personal to the massive sheet of ice that is one of many glaciers coming down out of the Harding Ice Field.  On the trip we saw 3 moose (one of which was in Anchorage as we drove through) and around a dozen bald eagles.

Our exploring will be somewhat curtailed as snow is expected any day now.  It gets to the 40’s during the day, and into the teens or single numbers at night.  Sunrise is around 8:20 and sunset is 5:10.  Because of where the house is situated, the sun finally peaks over the mountain behind us around 10:30 and goes behind the mountain next to us around 2:30, so we don’t get much direct sunlight at the house anymore.  Should be an interesting winter!
